Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe is expanding again, this time with 1923, a new prequel series with a lot of big-name stars.
The new Yellowstone movie is about Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford) and his wife, Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren), who are trying to make it in the West while World War I, Prohibition, and the Great Depression are happening (which started early in Montana).

Like 1883, 1923 is a prequel to Yellowstone. It is about the struggles of the Dutton family to build and keep their Montana ranch. According to a press release, “1923” is about the next two generations of the Dutton family and how they try to survive a historic drought, lawlessness and prohibition, and an epidemic of cattle theft.
All of these things happened under the shadow of Montana’s Great Depression, which started almost a decade before the rest of the country.
As with the other Yellowstone shows, Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren lead the cast as Jacob and Cara Dutton in 1932. In the history of the Dutton family, Jacob is James Dutton’s brother. In 1883, Tim McGraw played James Dutton.
Michelle Randolph, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Sebastian Roche, Robert Patrick, Julia Schlaepfer, and Jerome Flynn are also in the cast.
