Who is Salt Bae?
Known for his distinctive way of seasoning steaks, Nusret Gökçe or more popularly known as Salt Bae is a Turkish butcher, chef and restaurateur who became a viral sensation in January 2017.
He is the owner of Nusr-Et, a network of upscale steakhouses with locations in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Turkey, and Greece.
On videos posted on the restaurant’s Twitter account, He can be seen cutting steaks with style and dropping salt from his fingertips to his forearm, and then onto the dish.
What did he do at the finals match?
Salt Bae made his way to the field where the Argetinian players were celebrating with their championship trophies and medals after the match interrupting celebrations.
He was also seen carrying the Fifa World Cup Trophy while doing his signature posture. The original FIFA World Cup Trophy can only be touched and held by a very select group of people, which includes former winners of the FIFA World Cup and heads of state according to the official FIFA website.
He bit the medal of victory that was given to reserve goalie Franco Armani and was also pictured harassing player Lionel Messi for a photo who seemed openly irritated by his antics.
FIFA are now conducting an investigation into the circumstances which led up to Salt Bae ending up on the pitch.
Gianni Infantino, the FIFA chief, paid a visit to one of his eateries in Dubai in January 2021, and was captured doing his signature salt-seasoning pose next to Salt Bae. Fans are speculating this could be part of the reason why he was let onto the pitch.
Since his actions during the FIFA World Cup celebrations outraged football fans all around the world, he has been banned from the US Open Cup final.
