Who is Tory Lanez?
Tory Lanez, a well-known rapper, songwriter, vocalist, and record producer, was born on July 27, 1992.
His real name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson and he began his career at a very young age.
At the age of 16, he started playing at outdoor concerts, and at the age of 17, he developed an interest in singing. Conflicts of My Soul: The 416 Story, his mixtape, helped him attain notoriety in the hip-hop world.
In 2020, his independently released album Daystar which was inspired by his alleged shooting of Megan Thee Stallion reached the top of the charts.
What was the verdict of the case?
Rapper Tory Lanez was found guilty on all three counts by a jury in Los Angeles for shooting hip-hop icon Megan Thee Stallion on July 12, 2020, in the Hollywood Hills.
Lanez was charged with discharging a firearm with gross negligence, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm.
Lanez pleaded not guilty to all three charges and declined to testify during the trial. During the trial, his defence counsel maintained that their client was not the shooter.
Nine women and five men, including four Black jurors, made up the jury, including alternates. Before convicting Lanez, they deliberated for seven hours over two days.

Jurors heard testimony from numerous witnesses, including Megan herself over the course of the two-week trial. Megan’s former friend Kelsey Harris was one of four people present when Megan was shot also testified.
A text message Harris sent to Megan’s former bodyguard Justin Edison shortly after the event, in which she wrote, “Help Tory shot Meg 911,” was a crucial piece of evidence that was submitted to the jury.
Edison, who had been summoned to testify in this case went missing a day before his scheduled testimony.

After the verdict was declared, chaos reportedly broke out in the courtroom with Lanez’s father yelling at the attorneys calling them “witches” and “evil,” according to reports.

Lanes could face a maximum sentence of more than 22 years in prison and deportation back to Canada.
