It’s no secret that Paramount+’s Yellowstone prequel spinoff 1923 has a big budget since it stars big names like Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren and is filmed not only in the United States but also in Africa. But now, the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, is talking about how much the show costs to make.
Sheridan told Deadline (via Collider) that each episode of 1923 has a budget that is similar to that of a small movie. He also said that while 1883 was the “most expensive first season” of a TV show, 1923 is even more expensive than that because of its location and practical effects.
“I would say that the first season of 1883 cost the most of any TV show ever made. It cost a lot more in [1923]. A lot more money. I don’t know how much Game of Thrones cost, but I can’t imagine it being more than this “he said. “You saw 6,000 sheep and 3,000 cattle, and if this show keeps going, it looks like you’re in Africa.
All real. You are aware of how difficult it is to move a crew about in Africa in 2022 with COVID, the restrictions, and the politics, right? It’s so easy to change [Paramount], at least for me as a storyteller. I need more episodes for the story to make sense. When you talk about a show that costs $30 million to $35 million per episode and asks for eight more episodes, you realize that you just asked for 240 million dollars.”
What’s The Story of 1923?
In 1923, in the next chapter of the Dutton Family origin narrative, patriarch Jacob (Ford) and matriarch Cara will lead a new generation of Duttons (Mirren). The series will look at the early 20th century when the mountain west was hit by pandemics, a long drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression. The Dutton family lived there at the time.
In addition to Ford, 1923 features Helen Mirren, Darren Mann (“Animal Kingdom”), Michelle Randolph (“A Snow White Christmas”), James Badge Dale (“Hightown”), Marley Shelton (“Scream”), Brian Geraghty (“Big Sky”), Aminah Nieves (“Blueberry”), and Jerome Flynn (“Game of Thrones”).
Does Paramount+ Have Yellowstone?
Yellowstone’s first four seasons can be streamed on Peacock, not Paramount+, because of a deal made before Paramount+ changed its name. But Yellowstone spinoffs can only be found on Paramount+. For Season 5 of Yellowstone, you’ll need cable or an alternative to cable if you don’t want to wait until late next summer for them to come out on Peacock.
