Yellowstone is doing something fresh for Season 5. In the two previous winters, we watched ten episodes of the best cable drama before having to wait nearly a year for more. But that won’t happen this time. Season 5 is being split into two parts, and after Episode 8 aired on New Year’s Day, there will be a long break.
It’s not quite as long as the break between seasons, but it’s also not just a few weeks to let the Dutton family’s civil war cool down after the midseason finale.
When is Yellowstone Coming Back?
No specific date has been set yet, but Paramount Network has said that the Duttons will be back in the Summer of 2023. (Can you believe that it is 2023? Yellowstone began as a summer program, and until Season 4, each new season began in June. Perhaps the popular series is returning to its former glory.
Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 2 Preview
Although Paramount released a teaser for the second half of the season, it does not feature any new footage. It hasn’t been filmed yet, so that’s why. Piper Perabo told the media in the middle of December that she didn’t know what would happen after episode eight. This indicates that production on episode nine has not yet begun.

Yellowstone Season 5 Review
After four seasons of plotting and struggling for power against the comparatively undisturbed beauty of Montana, the new governor, John Dutton, is in command, and his assistant, Beth (Kelly Reilly), runs the show.
In the first two segments of the first episode of Season 5, he reveals his intentions. Although John has a new job, the ranch hands’ behavior has not altered. This results in some of the best scenes in the initial episodes.
Yellowstone Season 5 Cast
There are both familiar and unfamiliar individuals at the ranch in Season 5. Josh Lucas returns for the first time since Season 3 as young John Dutton. He also collaborates with Kylie Rogers, who portrays young Beth, and Kyle Red Silverstein, who portrays young Rip.
Jacki Weaver reprises her role as the CEO of Market Equities, Caroline Warner, the Duttons’ most recent business opponent. Mo Brings Plenty and Wendy Moniz have been promoted to series regulars as Thomas Rainwater’s (Gil Birmingham) right-hand man Mo and Lynelle Perry, a former governor who became a senator.
In addition, there will be four additional residents in Yellowstone. Kai Caster portrays Rowdy, a young cowboy, on stage. Lainey Wilson is portraying the musician Abby. Clara Brewer, who works for Gov. Dutton, is played by Lilli Kai. Dawn Olivieri, who was in 1883, joins the cast as Sarah Atwood, a “corporate shark” who has become close to Jamie and is new to Montana.
The entire bunkhouse returns, including Forrie J. Smith, Denim Richards, Ian Bohen, Ryan Bingham, and Jen Landon as Teeter, who has been elevated to series regular.
Before the season started, it was announced that Kathryn Kelly, who plays Jimmy’s fiancee Emily, has been promoted to a series regular and will be back with Jefferson White, who plays Jimmy. They’ve been living and working at the Four Sixes Ranch during the first part of the season, so they’ve been unseen. It appears that the Yellowstone cowboys are bringing the livestock there to prevent them from becoming ill.
Orli Gottesman, who portrays Halie, a young, self-assured girl drawn to Carter, is likely to appear in the second part of the season. “During Season 5, Halie becomes the person who helps Carter come out of his shell and discover more about himself,” according to her character description. “Carter always wants Halie to be around.” “Now that Hailie is there, he has someone who can fill that role and be there for him.”
It is described how each show operates, how to watch, the Dutton family tree, and more.

Yellowstone Season 4 Recap
Yellowstone Season 5 began following the brutal conclusion of Season 4; Beth (Kelly Reilly), who we all know is the real brains behind every operation at the Yellowstone-Dutton Ranch, led her adopted brother Jamie (Wes Bentley) into killing his biological father, Garrett (Will Patton).
After discovering in Season 3 that Garrett had attempted to murder John, Beth, and Kayce (Luke Grimes), Beth believed he deserved to die. She also made sure to preserve the proof, so she now has power over Jamie and he cannot run for governor.
This means that only their father is eligible to run for office. She just got married to Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and saw her father’s new, confusing vegan special friend (Piper Perabo) go to jail, so it’s basically Beth’s world and everyone else is just living in it.
Kayce’s the extensive spiritual journey has provided him with a glimpse of two paths, making it more difficult for Beth to take over the world and Montana. He told Monica (Kelsey Asbille) that at least one of these paths would be “the end of us.” It can’t be good, no matter what that means.
Yellowstone Prequels and Spin-Offs
Yellowstone is no longer the only Taylor Sheridan ranching-themed television series. In late 2017, Paramount+ aired the prequel miniseries 1883, which detailed the Dutton family’s migration to Montana.
Isabel May played Elsa, the brave and adventurous sister of John Dutton’s great-grandfather John Sr., and Tim McGraw played her father, James. David Oyelowo will play the legendary first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi in a spin-off called 1883: The Bass Reeves Story. He was once a slave and caught more than 3,000 criminals.
In December 1923, a second prequel to Yellowstone came out. It starts 40 years after 1883 when the next generation of the Dutton family is taking care of their ranch in the years after World War I and before Prohibition. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren play Jacob and Cara Dutton, James Dutton’s brother and sister-in-law from 1883. Some secrets about the Dutton family tree were also revealed in the 1923 premiere.
Sheridan is also working on 6666, a Yellowstone spin-off. It takes place at the real historic Four Sixes ranch in Texas, which Sheridan owns, and tells the story of how the ranch is still run the same way it was over a hundred years ago. Along with the main show, that spin-off will air on the Paramount Network.
Kevin Costner, who was in Yellowstone, said at the Oscars Red Carpet in 2022, “I have no doubt there will be more spin-offs.” “I didn’t even know there were going to be spin-offs,” he said. “I simply do what I need to do, hit my targets, and think, ‘Wow, this is going so beautifully!'” Going well indeed.
