Sheriff Donnie Haskell, played by Hugh Dillon, is one of the characters who have come and gone from “Yellowstone” over the years. Haskell was introduced as a sometimes reluctant ally of John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and the Yellowstone Ranch, but in “Yellowstone” Season 4 Episode 8, he was shot and killed (“No Kindness for the Coward”).
In “Yellowstone,” a lot of famous people are introduced and then killed off, but Sheriff Haskell seemed like he might stick around for a while since he had a long history with John and loved his home even though he had some regrets. Before being in more than a dozen episodes of “Yellowstone,” Dillon worked on “Wind River” with “Yellowstone” co-creator Taylor Sheridan (per IMDb).
Dillon is also known as the lead singer of the band Headstones, in addition to being an actor. Songs by Dillon have been in a wide range of movies, from “Trailer Park Boys: The Movie” to “Surveillance,” which was directed by Jennifer Lynch (via IMDb).
Even though Sheriff Haskell was fired and killed in “Yellowstone,” Sheridan and Dillon have continued to work together in a surprising way. Dillon has also had a lot to do besides acting because of his music. Here’s what Hugh Dillon has been doing since “Yellowstone” ended.
Hugh Dillon Was Part of The Team That Made “Mayor of Kingstown” and Put Out An Album!
Hugh Dillon helped make “Mayor of Kingstown,” another Paramount show that Taylor Sheridan is in charge of after he left “Yellowstone.” Dillon is also the show’s executive producer. He plays Ian Ferguson, a cop who is willing to go over the line to keep his city in order.
Even though he has a badge, he often takes orders from Jeremy McLusky, played by Jeremy Renner. McLusky is an ex-con who now works as a go-between for the law and the criminal underworld of the city, especially what goes on behind bars.
The world of “Mayor of Kingstown,” in which prisons are the main source of income for a whole town, is based on where Dillon grew up. When promoting the first season of the show, he said that he grew up in a town with nine prisons.
“As a child, my mom was a teacher, and the parents of some of my friends were prison guards. One of my friends’ parents was a warden, and some of my other friends were people who had been convicted of a crime. So, when I was a kid, I was really interested in it. I remember driving by with my parents and seeing the guard tower and thinking, “Oh, that’s Disneyland!” But it’s nothing like Disneyland “told Newsweek the actor.
On “Mayor of Kingstown,” Dillon wore many hats. In October 2022, his band, Headstones, also put out a new album (per Spill Magazine).
