Wes Bentley says that the end of the western drama Yellowstone has already been planned by the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan. Kevin Costner plays John Dutton, whose family has owned and run Montana’s biggest ranch for more than a century. Throughout the series, John and His Family face different threats to their continued ownership of the valuable property. These include corporate interests, the nearby Broken Rock Indian Reservation, vengeful enemies from John’s past, and even family members.
During a Screen Actors Guild panel for the show after the mid-season finale of Yellowstone Season 5, Bentley said (via Deadline) that Sheridan already knows how the show will end. The actor said that the show’s creator told him that he knows how everything will end but might not know how it will get there. What Bentley said is written below:
“He has said to me, he knows how he wants to end it. That was a while ago. I’m sure he didn’t know how we were going to get there but he knows how.”
The Future of Yellowstone
Yellowstone’s story of political intrigue, family fights, and violent retribution doesn’t look like it’s going to slow down in season 5. In the series, John’s only goal is to keep his family together and keep the land in the Dutton family. Most likely, the end of the show will answer that question and put an end to the matter for good. But the last episode of the 1883 prequel series hinted at a possible end to Yellowstone.
Elsa Dutton (Isabel May), who is bravely protecting the wagon train from an attack by nearby Lakota, is killed by an arrow to the abdomen. Local Crow leader Spotted Eagle (Graham Green) tells Elsa’s father, James Dutton (Tim McGraw), about a beautiful place called Paradise. He does this because he knows that she will die. But the leader says that in seven generations, his people will take back the land.
James takes Elsa to Paradise, where she dies in the end. He decides that his family will move there and start living on the Yellowstone ranch land. Yellowstone could end with Spotted Eagle’s promise being kept when the Broken Rock reservation adds the ranch to their land.
Will John Dutton Die When Yellowstone Ends?
John has given his life to the land and then to his family. He thinks that the ranch and the land it is on are holy. From what John does over the course of the five seasons of Yellowstone, it’s clear that as long as he can still breathe, he won’t stop fighting to keep the land in his family’s name. If what the Crow elder said comes true, John will probably have to die.
When Yellowstone Season 5 comes back in the summer, Chief Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and his rival Angela Blue Thunder (Q’orianka Kilcher) will start their political plans to get rid of Market Equities and any other obstacles in their way so that the reservation can take over the Yellowstone ranch.
