Hawkeye has been called a “Limited Series,” just like WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier were. This means that a second season doesn’t seem likely. Yelena is sneaky, but Marvel can be even sneakier, especially when it comes to the future of their big superhero projects. So let’s just say not all hope is lost just yet.
Since Disney+ has renewed both Loki and What If…? after their first seasons had already aired, it’s safe to assume that we won’t be seeing the last of Hawkeye anytime soon, even if we never hear anything about a second season.
Variety thinks for sure that there will be a second season. They point out that the series was entered in the comedy category at the Emmys, which is usually for ongoing shows, not one-off mini-series.
Moon Knight has been submitted to the limited series category, and Barry and Ted Lasso are tough competitors in the comedy category, so it is a very interesting move by Disney to add Hawkeye to the mix.
When Buzzfeed asked Bert and Bertie about season two, they said, “It’s exciting to hear fans clamoring for a second season. We can’t say anything. I believe it’s when you realize you’re doing something properly and that your customers are truly satisfied.
“They’ve been on this roller coaster before, and now they want more. More of everything, especially Kate and Yelena. Since this is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, these stories must go on, right?”
Grab some spicy sauce and join us as we discuss how “These Stories” could continue in Hawkeye’s second season and beyond.
Hawkeye Season 2: Potential Release Date
The second season of most TV shows comes about 12 to 18 months after the first. However, Marvel shows are part of a much bigger plan that involves the MCU as a whole.
This makes it more difficult to forecast when a narrative like Hawkeye will return or if it will be renewed. It’s just as likely that these characters will show up in a movie or TV show by someone else.
But if there is a Hawkeye Season 2, we don’t think new episodes will come out until at least 2023.
Hawkeye Season 2: Cast Speculation
Jeremy Renner‘s role is the biggest question mark about Hawkeye’s second season. In many ways, the first season set up Hailee Steinfeld’s character Kate Bishop to take over for the original Hawkeye in the future.
Even though Hailee is likely to come back, we shouldn’t necessarily give up on Jeremy just yet. Producer Trinh Tran says that Renner could still be a part of the MCU in some way, though it’s likely that his role won’t be as big as it was in the past.
Tran told CinePOP, “Especially with Clint Barton, there are always new stories to tell.” There is a lot more to find out about. We’ll just have to see what happens, but working with Jeremy is great. He is the only person who really knows who Clint Barton is. He loves his role. I think it might be possible. We’ll see.”
Kingpin, who is played by Vincent D’Onofrio in both Hawkeye and Daredevil on Netflix, is also a big question mark. In the last issue of Matt Fraction’s famous Hawkeye comic, the Kingpin brought together a group of criminal leaders and said, “It looks like we’re in the business of killing Avengers.” In the last scene of Hawkeye, Echo turned the tables on him by shooting him off-screen, making it look like he was killed.
But is Kingpin really dead, or will he come back someday, hurt but still alive? Our money is on the second option. Did you see how he took all those arrows to the chest in stride? If so, he will be back in Hawkeye’s second season and/or Echo’s spinoff show. Kate’s new best friend, Yelena Romanoff (Florence Pugh), will hopefully stick around to help with some hot sauce.
“In the spirit of secrecy,” director Rhys Thomas told Collider, “I can’t talk about plans for the future.” “Again, you never know how the show will be received when it comes out, and it’s been great to see how much people have liked it and enjoyed it. And it’s been great to see Hailee’s character become a part of the MCU and feel like it has a place there. I’m really excited to see where this character goes next. And yes, I loved walking around the MCU and would be happy to do it again.”
Renner has been even quieter in the past, telling GamesRadar, “I don’t have a crystal ball, or I’m not a soothsayer. But with Hailee and these other characters joining, I think it sets up six great episodes for this kind of event on TV. I don’t know what will happen next. But these six episodes are pretty interesting.”
Steinfeld was very happy to join the MCU, saying that Hawkeye season one is just the beginning of her journey.
Steinfeld said, “I can tell you that [Kate’s narrative] begins in this show, which I am so pleased to be a part of, and I am just so excited to be portraying a character that people have been so excited to see on the big screen for a long time” (via GamesRadar). “I feel very lucky.”
We’ll have to wait and see if that journey continues on the big screen or the small screen.
Hawkeye Season 2: Plot Speculation
Hawkeye’s first season left a lot of questions unanswered on purpose. This suggests that Clint Barton may continue to be Hawkeye along with his new partner, Kate Bishop, also known as Lady Hawk, Hawk Eve, Hawk Shot, and Lady Arrow.
We don’t know if that story will continue in Hawkeye season two, but we do know that Kate will soon be joining the Avengers. Marvel has been teasing a Young Avengers team for a while, which means that Hailee Steinfeld’s character could soon be on the big screen with Wanda’s kids, Ant-daughter, Man, and a lot of other new heroes who look set to replace the old ones.
Marvel has already confirmed that Echo’s new spinoff show will continue the effects of Hawkeye’s first season. At the end of season one, Alaqua Cox’s character was given a second chance. This means that when her new show comes out, she will be a morally questionable vigilante like Marvel’s Netflix roster.
