In HBO’s upcoming series The Last of Us, English actor Bella Ramsey reprises her role as Ellie, a 14-year-old girl who represents humanity’s only hope for survival.
The show is about a world twenty years after the end of the world when a strain of Cordyceps fungus infects everyone and turns them into animals or zombies when they breathe in the spores. A bad guy named Joel (Pedro Pascal) lives in the quarantine area in Boston, Massachusetts. He is given the job of sneaking Ellie out of the quarantine area.
Ramsey became well-known for her roles in Game of Thrones, The Worst Witch, Hilda, and Becoming Elizabeth. The last time she was seen on screen was in the 2022 comedy film Catherine Called Birdy, which was set in the past.

Ramsey was born in September 2003 in Nottingham, and he went to school through InterHigh School. She started acting for fun when she was four. For seven years, she went to the Loughborough branch of Stagecoach Theater Arts. Then, she went to the Television Workshop to try out for professional roles.
Bella Ramsey was first seen as Lyanna Mormont on Game of Thrones, an HBO fantasy drama. After Ramsey appeared in the episode “The Broken Man,” fans and critics said that she was a standout actor because she was able to show how her character led in a tough way. The Hollywood Reporter said that she was “the breakout star of Season 6.”
In seasons seven and eight, Bella kept playing the role. Then, in 2017, she played Mildred Hubble in the TV show based on the book The Worst Witch. For this role, she won the Young Performer award at the 2019 British Academy Children’s Awards. She left the show in 2020 because of problems with her mental health.
Ramsey has been giving Hilda’s voice since 2018. For this, she won the 2019 BAFTA award for best “Children’s Animation,” which she shared with Luke Pearson, Kurt Mueller, and Stephanie Simpson. The show helped her start singing, and on November 25, 2020, her first song, “The Life of Hilda,” came out.
Hilda and the Mountain King was an 80-minute movie special that came out on December 30, 2021. Bella played Hilda again in it.
Ramsey was chosen in February 2021 to play Ellie in the upcoming HBO adaptation of the 2013 video game The Last of Us. She will star alongside Pedro Pascal, who played Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones, in the movie.
The show’s creator, Craig Mazin, told The Hollywood Reporter that he was sure Ramsey was the right person for the part after seeing her tape. He said,
“Bella felt so real.”
Neil Druckmann, who also created the show, said:
“It was like Ellie realized in live action. It didn’t feel like watching an actor.”
Ramsey told The New York Times in a recent interview that she changes her gender. She said:
“I guess my gender has always been very fluid. Someone would call me ‘she’ or ‘her’ and I wouldn’t think about it, but I knew that if someone called me ‘he’ it was a bit exciting.”
She said,
“I’m very much just a person. Being gendered isn’t something that I particularly like, but in terms of pronouns, I really couldn’t care less.”
