WARNING: Spoilers Ahead!
Naughty Dog’s magnum opus The Last of Us has been one of the most anticipated shows of the year, and the first two episodes have not disappointed me. The second episode of The Last of Us lived up to fans’ hopes, just like the first episode.
The creators of the live-action HBO Show were able to capture the mood of the 2013 game of the year. But apart from all the things that make the live-action version work, Tess’s death in the most recent episode has set the internet on fire.
Fans Are Disgusted At Tess’s Horrific Death
With shows like Game of Thrones and Euphoria, HBO is no stranger to violent deaths and overly sensual scenes. But with Tess’s death in the second episode of The Last of Us, they’ve found a way to top that.
Tess, who had already been infected, died in the second episode of the show. But her death in the live-action version is more violent than in the games. In the movie version, the character gives up her own life to help Joel and Ellie with their mission. But instead of being killed by a hail of bullets, she is killed by an explosion she set off herself. Fans were disgusted not by the explosion, but by the horrifying kissing scene that came before it.
In the scene, Tess is standing still when an infected person comes up to her. Instead of tearing her apart, the infected person gives her the most disgusting kisses ever seen on TV. In a scary show, the Infected push their fungus tendrils down her throat. Fans now think that it was one of the most disgusting deaths in all of HBO, even worse than Game of Thrones.
The Last of Us Experienced A Substantial Rise in Viewership
The Last of Us is just as good as the book it was based on, and it has definitely broken the video game curse. Fans and critics love and praise the show a lot, which is clear from the fact that the number of people watching the second episode went up. This is also the highest second-week audience growth for an HBO show.
The First Episode of The Last of Us opened with a huge 4.7 million views, which makes sense given how popular and talked-about the games are already. But the second episode, “Infected,” got 5.7 million views on its first night, which is 22% more than the first episode.
Even though Sunday night viewers only account for 20–40% of a show’s total earnings per episode, the first episode had 18 million views. But based on how good the first two episodes were, it seems likely that the numbers will keep going up in the episodes to come.
Fans have said that the showrunners did a great job of staying true to the books and making the show as real as possible. Some even said it was the most accurate adaptation of a video game ever, and they can’t wait for the next episodes to see how the story plays out in real life.
You can now watch The Last of Us on HBO Max.
